Renal Run Around & Saturday Redirect

Oh dear, the med-student-run-around has resumed. Second year is filled with an organ by organ march through the body culminating in the first step of the medical boards. Presently the kidneys are taking over my life. And, to make things more difficult interesting, I’m applying for a Med Scholars grant in hopes that “Endosymbiont” will convince the academic powers that be that my short, medical SF qualifies as a legitimate research pursuit. Keep all possible appendages crossed for me. And, sadly, my blogging has begun to wane again.

In an effort to combat that, I’m going to try a new type of post: Ye Olde Redirect Post in which the Author Links to Various and Sundry Things that have been Distracting Him.

Jack Kincaid Launch’s a webcast of Hoad’s Grim: fans of the Seeds of Change trailer, will recognize Jack as the genius behind the amazing video and music that brought all our stories to life. In addition to being a multimedia guru, Jack is also a talented horror writer and the prolog and first chapter he has put up gave me the all-overs. Let’s hope there’s more soon.

A Robot that Can Run Through Snow and Over Ice: a MIT alum pointed this out to me and I just can’t help sharing. When the robot slips on the ice and starts to scramble, you could almost swear it’s alive. Tres scifi.

An Article on Why We Misspell: from John Joseph Adams. It’s an interesting take on cacography. Perhaps is a sniff on the “out grouping homogeneity effect,” but it seems to me that the conclusion, “sometimes we misspell because we are too smart,” is exactly backwards. IMO, that should read “often we misspell because English is too dumb.”

Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell Sing the National Anthem: Often, I love America. Watching this reminds me why.

  • Thanks for listening, sir. It’s going to be a looong six months for me (said in a vaguely how-did-I-get-myself-into-this tone).

    All appendages crossed.
