Great questions, Blake!

Congrats, Saladin, on answering them without "being a shit". Connie is sly. The advice seems easy to obey but it really isn't!

You HAVE to read the Lions of el Rassan, it is brilliant. Also, The Etched City by KJ Bishop has some beautiful Muslim echoes.

The novel sounds sweet. How non-lazy of you to make an alternate world for it instead of doing what I did for one of my current projects...tiiime trrravel to ancient Byblos!

And it does, indeed, seem like Hayley rules if you are expecting twins in 2 weeks but going to the Nebula weekend in May. Tell me she is going to be surrounded by a hundred members of your interfering-but-lovable extended family!

Oh, and if you have daughters, resist the storyteller's urge to call one of them Sheherezade. It's not nearly as awesome for the victim as it is for the perpetrator ;)

You do great interviews, Blake. I'll put the Nebula short-listed story up on Friday. Is any of his poetry online?

"it’s nice to be able to show something to our children that they can say one of their ‘Brother’s’ wrote."

That's one of the nicest things anyone's ever said about my work, Lizette, thanks! I should warn you, though, that my writing tends to be somewhat unorthodox as well as 'PG-13' or 'R'...not sure how old the kids are.

I've heard a range of things about Brett's novel -- some readers have found positive 'Muslim-ish' depictions, while some have found the depictions bordering on stereotype. It does concern me that in book II the Prophet-type figure seems to become the hero's adversary, but even that could be handled well, depending. I think I need to read for myself once I get out from under this pile of OTHER books to read -- and when I'm not in the midst of diapering our twins, who are set to arrive in two weeks!

Very awesome interview Blake. I share Saladin's love for the Aiel, right on! There is a definitely a niche here...I'm very fond of Peter V. Brett's Krassian society as well. Check it out. Can't think--- late. hehe. Background here- we're Muslim as well, and loooove fantasy in this household, so it's nice to be able to show something to our children that they can say one of their 'Brother's' wrote. Thanks for being a part of it Saladin.
